Terms and Conditions

Welcome to the SCORE Association (“our,” “we” or “us”) website.  These Terms of Use and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the SCORE Association website (“Site”).  Please read the terms in full before using our Site.  By accepting these Terms, or by using this Site, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms, and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Site.  We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time without prior notice, and your continuing use of the Site binds you to the changes made.  We do occasionally update these terms so please refer to them in the future.

1. Definitions and Interpretation

This Site does the following:
  •     Accepts donations, sponsorships, and revenue from donors, sponsors, and customers;
  •     Provides mentoring content to help small business owners;
  •     Provides event and webinar registration and viewing opportunities
  •     Provides educational and advertorial content for viewing, download, sharing, and interaction
  •     Provides chat and chatbot support for questions and information

All of the above shall collectively be referred to as “Services.”

MENTORING DISCLAIMER


You understand that SCORE may not utilize resources to provide support to clients who have a business or want to start a business outside of the United States and its territories.

You understand that when you submit a request to participate in mentoring, and when you participate in mentoring, you are signifying that you agree to the terms and conditions of our mentoring outlined as follows:  You request business management mentoring from SCORE. You agree to cooperate should you be selected to participate in surveys designed to evaluate your business and provide services to you.  You understand that any information disclosed by SCORE to the Small Business Administration (SBA), or SBA representatives will be held in confidence to the extent that it will only be disclosed to SBA representatives to review and process your application; the information submitted in your SBA application will not be disclosed to commercial entities. You agree to the disclosure of your information to SBA representatives to process your mentoring application if required by SCORE. By submitting an SBA application, you authorize SCORE, and if necessary, SBA, to furnish relevant information to the assigned management mentor(s).  You further understand that all mentors have agreed not to: (1) recommend goods or services from sources in which they have an interest and (2) accept fees or commissions developing from this mentoring relationship. In consideration of the furnishing of management or technical assistance, you waive all claims against SCORE, SBA personnel, Small Business Development Centers and their host organizations, and other SBA resource mentors arising from this assistance.

You understand that our mentors are not providing advice pursuant to the authority of professional certifications or licenses that they may hold, and you will not treat information provided by our mentors as such.  You further understand that you are not entering into a relationship with our mentors that entitles you to client privileges that may be associated with any professional certifications or licenses that our mentors may hold. You understand that we do not engage in the practice of law. This includes, but is not limited to, providing specific legal advice, representing an individual in litigation or any legal proceeding, or otherwise practicing law as defined by applicable state law.  We do not engage in conduct that leads to the creation of any attorney-client relationship.

COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT


We are funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The support given by SBA to us through such funding does not constitute an express or implied endorsement by SBA of any of our opinions, products, or services. 

LOCAL CHAPTERS


The support given by us to our various local chapters, whether in the form of funding or Webhosting of local chapter information on its website, does not constitute an express or implied endorsement by us of any of the opinions, products, or services offered by such local chapters.

USE OF SITE


Our Site, images, data, text, audio, videos, photographs, custom graphics, logos, button icons, descriptions, and all other material provided and the collection and compilation and assembly thereof, are the exclusive property of SCORE or its parent and are protected by the U.S. and international copyright and trademark laws. 

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Site strictly in accordance with these Terms. As a condition of your use of these Services, you warrant to SCORE that you will not use the Services for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms. You may not use the Services in any manner which could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Services, or interfere with any other party’s use and enjoyment of the Services. You may not obtain or attempt to obtain any materials or information through any means not intentionally made available or provided for through the Services. 

Use of the Services and any information or content access by you via the Services or any part of the Site is for your personal use only and the distribution or commercial exploitation of such information is strictly prohibited. The information or content is not intended to amount to advice or recommendations and is provided for informational purposes only. 

Any commercial use or exploitation of the whole or any part of the Services, the information or content on the Site, and/or any other information or content in the Services is strictly prohibited. The use of automated systems or software to copy and/or extract the whole or any part of, the Site, the information in the Services, and/or any other information contained within or as part of the Site and/or its source code for any purposes (e.g., screen snapping) is strictly prohibited. 

You should assume that everything on the Site, including, www.score.org  is subject to copyright or trademark unless otherwise noted. All graphics and design elements on the Site, functions, technologies as well as the “look and feel” of the Site are copyrighted.  Use of the Site content, the Site graphic and design elements or the “look and feel” of the Site is forbidden without our express written permission. We neither warrant nor represent that your use of the content displayed on this Site will not infringe the rights of third parties. Any product, service, content, program, or technology on this Site may be the subject of intellectual property rights such as, but not limited to, copyright, trademark, or patent rights. Any such right that is not expressly given herein is reserved by us. 

Images, graphics, and photographs on the Site are either our property or used by us with permission by their respective owners. Use of these images by you or other third parties is prohibited without express written permission. Any unauthorized use of these images, graphics and photographs may violate copyright laws, trademark laws, rights of privacy and publicity, or other applicable laws and regulations.

The contents of our Site may be used for personal informational purposes only.  Any other use of such contents, including the reproduction, modification, distribution, transmission, republication, display, or performance of the contents without our prior written consent is expressly forbidden. 

Any other trademarks or service marks appearing anywhere on our Site are the property of their respective owners.  To the extent any product name or logo does not appear with a trademark notation (™ or ®), this does not constitute a waiver of trademark rights and associated goodwill that SCORE, its businesses or any third parties have established in any products, features, or service names or logos.

Nothing in these Terms or on the Site shall be construed as conferring any intellectual property or other proprietary rights to You.  You agree to observe copyright, trademark and other applicable laws and may not use the content in any manner that infringes or violates the rights of any person or entity.  We hold all rights to the content on this Site. You may download content displayed on the Site for personal, non-commercial use. You must maintain all copyright and other proprietary notices on downloaded and/or copied material. You may not distribute, modify, transmit, use, or reuse any of the content on the Site for any public or commercial purpose without our prior written consent (to the extent the content is owned by us) or the respective content owner(s) (to the extent the content is owned by a third party). SCORE chapters may download, duplicate, and distribute proprietary Site content to clients and at SCORE-sponsored workshops and seminars. 

You agree that you will not use the Site, or any contents or services, for any purpose that is unlawful in any applicable jurisdiction where our Site are being used or prohibited by these terms, conditions, and notices, and you agree to abide by the terms and conditions set forth in the “User Conduct” section. You may not use the Site contents or services in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair any of our equipment or interfere with any other party’s use and enjoyment of the Site, or any contents or services.  You may not attempt to gain access to any portion of the Site, or any of its contents or services, other than those for which you are authorized.   

Certain services offered through the Site may be subject to additional terms and fees, such as registration for webinars or digital courses. Use of third-party learning platforms or payment processors is at your own risk and governed by their respective policies.

Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this Site are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under applicable law.

WHILE EVERY EFFORT IS MADE TO ENSURE THE TIMELINESS AND ACCURACY OF THE SITE CONTENT AND SERVICES, WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AND ASSUME NO LIABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COMPLETENESS, USE, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, CORRECTNESS, TIMELINESS, OR USEFULNESS, OF ANY OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM ITS USE.

While every effort is made to ensure that all content provided on the Site does not contain computer viruses and/or harmful materials, you should take reasonable and appropriate precautions to scan for computer viruses or otherwise protect your computer and you should ensure that you have a complete and current backup of the applicable items on your computer.  We disclaim any liability for the need for services or replacing equipment or data resulting from your use of the Site.  While every effort is made to ensure smooth and continuous operation, we do not warrant the Site will operate error-free.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (the “DMCA”) provides recourse for copyright owners who believe that material appearing on the Internet infringes their rights under US copyright law.  The Foundation reserves the right to remove any material from the Site which allegedly infringes another person’s copyright.  Notices to the Foundation regarding any alleged copyright infringement on the Site should be sent to us via our Contact Us Page.  Please provide the following in your communication:

  •     a description of the copyrighted work or other intellectual property that you claim has been infringed;
  •     a description of where the material that you claim is infringing is located on the Site;
  •     your address, telephone number, and email address;
  •     a statement that the use of the copyrighted work is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;

SITE UPTIME


We take all reasonable steps to ensure that our Site is available 24 hours every day, 365 days per year. However, websites do sometimes encounter downtime due to server and other technical issues. Therefore, we will not be responsible or liable if this Site is unavailable at any time.

Our Site may be temporarily unavailable due to issues such as system failure, maintenance, or repair, or for reasons beyond our control. Where possible, we will try to give our users advance warning of maintenance issues, but shall not be obliged to do so.

USER CONDUCT


Any material you send or post to our Site shall be considered non-proprietary and non-confidential.  See also our Privacy Policy and Notice of Privacy Practices, which can be found here.    

When using our Site, you shall not post or send to or from the Site:

  •     content for which you have not obtained all necessary consents;
  •     content that is discriminatory, obscene, pornographic, defamatory, liable to incite racial hatred, in breach of confidentiality or privacy, which may cause annoyance or inconvenience to others, which encourages or constitutes conduct that would be deemed a criminal offense, give rise to a civil liability, or otherwise is contrary to the law in any applicable jurisdiction where our Site is being used;
  •     content which is harmful in nature including, and without limitation, computer viruses, Trojan horses, corrupted data, or other potentially harmful software or data.

We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requiring us to disclose the identity or other details of any person posting materials to our Site in breach of this Section.   

You shall not use our Site while distracted or preoccupied, such as when operating a motor vehicle. You should access our Site only with due regard for your own safety and the safety of others.

POSTS TO SITE; LICENSE
You grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free and irrevocable right and license to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print, modify, edit, perform, adapt, sublicense, re-purpose or otherwise use any material or content you post to our Site, in whole or in part, for any purpose in all languages and in all media now known or developed in the future.

LINKS TO AND FROM THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES
Any links furnished on our Site may allow you to leave our Site.  These third-party websites are not under our control, and we disclaim any responsibility for the contents of such linked sites or any link(s) contained in any such linked site(s) or any changes or updates to any of these sites.  We further disclaim responsibility or liability for: (1) any products or services advertised on or provided by the owners of such third-party websites; and/or (2)  any form of transmission received from any linked third-party website or advertising.  If we provide these links to you, it is done simply as a convenience to you, and inclusion of any link herein shall in no way be construed as an endorsement by us of the site(s).  USE OF THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You agree that SCORE is not responsible for any disputes, claims, or liabilities arising from your purchase or use of any third-party product or service accessed via SCORE’s Marketplace, affiliate link, or promotional material.

CLASS ACTION WAIVER
Any arbitration under these Terms will take place on an individual basis; class arbitrations and class/representative/collective actions are not permitted. THE PARTIES AGREE THAT A PARTY MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN EACH'S INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PUTATIVE CLASS, COLLECTIVE AND/ OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING, SUCH AS IN THE FORM OF A PRIVATE ATTORNEY GENERAL ACTION AGAINST THE OTHER. Further, unless both you and SCORE agree otherwise, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding.
ASSIGNMENT

These Terms, and any rights and licenses granted hereunder, may not be transferred or assigned by you.

CHILDREN UNDER THIRTEEN
If you are under 13 years of age, you are not permitted to use this Site. 
APPLICABLE LAW

We make no representations that the content or the Site are appropriate or may be used or downloaded outside the United States. Access to the Site and/or the content may not be legal in certain countries outside the United States.  If you access the Site from outside the United States, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with the laws of the jurisdiction from which you access the Site.

The Site, and its contents, and any disputes arising therefrom shall be construed and interpreted under the laws of the State of Virginia, and applicable United States federal laws.  Use of our Site constitutes agreement of the user to the jurisdiction of the state and federal courts serving  Fairfax County, Virginia, U.S.A..

Our Site is subject to the United States export control laws and regulations and may be subject to export or import regulations in other countries. You agree to strictly comply with all such laws and regulations and acknowledge that you have the responsibility to obtain authorization to export, re-export, or import of any data on our Site, as may be required.

GENERAL


Your use of this Site is subject to SCORE’s Privacy Policy. Please review our Privacy Policy, which also governs this Site and informs users of our data collection practices. Our Privacy Policy is located at https://www.score.org/content/privacy-policy. As more fully detailed in the Privacy Policy, certain services made available via the Site are delivered by third party sites and organizations. By using any product, service, or functionality on this Site, you hereby acknowledge and consent that SCORE may share such information and data with any third party to provide requested product, service, or functionality on behalf of the Site users and customers. In addition, by using this Site, you acknowledge and agree that SCORE may track your use of all of SCORE’s content on this site. If any provision of these Terms is deemed invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such provision shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these Terms, which shall remain in full force and effect.  No waiver of any term shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or any other term, and our failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. YOU AGREE THAT ANY CAUSE OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SITE MUST COMMENCE WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER THE CAUSE OF ACTION ACCRUES. OTHERWISE, SUCH CAUSE OF ACTION IS PERMANENTLY BARRED.

SCORE services are provided without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, age, and disability.  Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities if requested at least two weeks in advance.

Term and Termination

This Agreement will take effect at the time you begin using this Site (thereby indicating acceptance of these Terms).  We reserve the right at any time and for any reason to deny you access to the Site or any portion thereof, and to terminate this Agreement.  Termination will be effective without notice.


Event Terms of Service

These terms of service ("Terms") govern your participation in SCORE online and in-person events. Please read these Terms carefully before registering for or attending any SCORE event.
Event Registration

To attend a SCORE event, you must register through the official registration process.

Registration may be subject to approval, and SCORE reserves the right to refuse or cancel registrations at its sole discretion.
Event Conduct

Participants are expected to behave respectfully and professionally towards other participants, attendees, speakers, sponsors, and SCORE staff and agents.  In addition, participants are expected to abide by all applicable local, state, and federal laws and the rules and policies of the venue or meeting platform.

Harassment or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. SCORE reserves the right to remove any participant engaging in such conduct without refund. This includes, but is not limited to, the misuse of any chat function available for the event.

Participants must respect the confidentiality and privacy of others. Participants must obtain explicit consent before sharing personal information or publishing any content, including photographs or recordings, that may identify or infringe upon the privacy of other participants, attendees, speakers, sponsors, and SCORE staff.

Event Content

All event materials, presentations, and content are the property of SCORE and/or its partners and are protected by intellectual property laws.

Participants may not reproduce, distribute, or use event content without the express written consent of SCORE.
Photography and Recording

Photography and recording of any kind (audio, video, or other) are prohibited without prior written consent from SCORE.

SCORE may capture photos and videos during the event for promotional purposes. By attending, participants grant SCORE the right to use their likeness in event-related materials.
Cancellation and Refund Policy

SCORE.org Refund Policy

SCORE.org (“SCORE,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides educational courses and webinars through one-time purchases, monthly subscriptions, and annual subscriptions. This Refund Policy outlines the terms for refunds and cancellations for purchases made on SCORE.org and academy.score.org. By enrolling, subscribing, or registering, you agree to these terms.

1. One-Time Purchases: 

1.1 Webinars (Live, Paid Sessions)

    All Sales Final: Once your registration and payment are complete, all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
    Non-Attendance: Missing a live webinar for any reason (including technical issues, time zone misunderstandings, or scheduling conflicts) does not qualify for a refund.
    Event Changes: If SCORE postpones or cancels a webinar, you will receive either:
  •   Free access to the rescheduled live session, or
  •   Access to the full webinar recording.
    Technology Requirements: You are responsible for ensuring you have the necessary internet, device, and software to participate. Refunds are not issued for technical difficulties on your end.
    Recording Access: Paid webinar registrants will receive access to the recording, even if unable to attend live.

1.2 Courses (On-Demand or Live Series)

    Eligibility & Timeframe: You may request a full refund within 14 calendar days of purchase and before accessing more than 20% of the course content—whichever occurs first.
    No refunds will be issued if:
  •         You have accessed more than 20% of the course content.
  •         More than 14 days have passed since your purchase.
  •         You have earned a certificate of completion.

2. Month-to-Month Subscriptions

  •     Billing: Auto-renews monthly on the anniversary of purchase.
  •     Refunds: No refunds are available after monthly billing occurs.
  •     Cancellation: You may cancel by the end of your current billing period.
  •     Avoiding Charges: Cancel before your renewal date to avoid the next charge.

3. Annual Subscriptions

Billing & Access

    Billed upfront for a 12-month term and auto-renews annually.

Cancellation

  •     Cancel before the renewal date to prevent the next annual charge.
  •     Cancellations take effect at the end of the current subscription term.

4. Free Trials & Promotional Offers

  •     Free trials must be canceled before the trial period ends to avoid automatic billing.
  •     If not canceled, billing begins automatically at the trial’s conclusion.
  •     Refunds after trial billing may be granted only within 14 days of the first paid billing and at SCORE’s sole discretion.

5. Exceptions & Special Considerations

  •     Refunds will not be issued if you violate SCORE’s policies or engage in misuse, fraud, or other breaches.
  •     Exceptional situations (e.g., medical emergencies) may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with refunds granted solely at SCORE’s discretion.

7. Modifications to This Policy

SCORE reserves the right to update this policy at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days prior to taking effect. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.
Privacy

By participating in SCORE events, you agree to the SCORE Privacy Policy, available on the SCORE website.

SCORE may share participant information with event sponsors for marketing purposes if participants opt-in during the registration process.

Code of Conduct

Participants must adhere to the SCORE Code of Conduct, available on the SCORE website.

Violation of the Code of Conduct may result in immediate removal from the event without refund.
Accessibility

SCORE is committed to providing accessible events for all participants. If you require accommodations to fully participate in the event, please contact SCORE at contactus@score.org  or 1-800-634-0245 at least ten (10) business days prior to the event, if possible, and otherwise as soon as possible.

SCORE will make reasonable efforts to accommodate accessibility requests, but it is essential to notify SCORE in advance to ensure adequate preparations can be made.

The event venue will be selected, whenever possible, based on its accessibility for individuals with disabilities. If you encounter any accessibility issues during the event, please notify SCORE immediately.

SCORE will provide accessible materials and presentations, but if you require additional assistance or alternative formats, please inform SCORE in advance.

In the virtual event space, SCORE will strive to utilize platforms and technologies that support accessibility features. If you encounter any challenges, please contact SCORE for assistance.

Event content providers and speakers are not necessarily SCORE members or employees. As such, the opinions expressed in the content are solely the author's and do not reflect the opinions and beliefs of SCORE or its affiliates.

Consequences

Any individual requested to stop any unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately, whether requested by SCORE staff, venue staff, or other participants. 

At any SCORE event or meeting, SCORE leaders or staff (or their designee) may take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including the removal of a participant for any unacceptable behavior as described herein. If the behavior occurs during a virtual event, SCORE will take appropriate action, which may include deleting a post or comment, blocking a participant and severing communication with the blocked user.

Any unacceptable behavior may also be remedied by SCORE in a manner reasonably believed to eliminate the possibility of the behavior happening again, including, but not limited to, future curtailment of the violator’s rights to participate at events, as well as suspension/termination of membership.

Reporting Unacceptable Behavior

Any member or participant that is the subject of unacceptable behavior or witnesses any such behavior, please immediately notify contactus@score.org or 1-800-634-0245 so that appropriate action can be taken.

Any member or participant experiencing or witnessing behavior that at any time in their judgment constitutes an immediate or serious threat to public safety is advised to contact 911 immediately.

Consent Agreement

By registering for or attending a SCORE event, you agree to abide by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you may not participate in SCORE events.
